ITC´s at its best in Bogotá / LOGBOOK #8

ITC´s at its best in Bogotá

Throughout October, it will be held in Bogotá the second version of "Bogotá Connected", assisted by Bogota’s mayoralty and the District’s High Council of Information Technology and Communications (DHCITC), the program will come out to citizens and tourists from September 24th until October 25th at a unique technological experience. The "ITC month" will offer various activities aimed to its main goal; get people connected to TIC, so they get to use and know about them. In the same way, it seeks to achieve national and international positioning as a stage dedicated to ITCs in order to activate the city’s digital technologies sector as well as the approach of these to citizens in different spheres. This version will be offering around 100 different activities in different subjects: Smart Bogotá, Digital Expressions, Free Culture and Academic Path. Mauricio Trujillo, district’s Information Technology and Communications consultant, assured in a interview for Blu Radio that during the weeks, activities such as the Digital Picture Marathon, Smart City - Bogotá, ITC park, Ciudad Bolivar’s ITC Grades, and the WIFI Schools opening, among others; will be brought out to the agenda. The only requirement is to be confortable and have fun of course.

Furthermore, such has been the positive impact an reception to this “ITC Month” initiative and not just national but internationally that during the XVI Plenary Assembly of the Ibero-America Union of Capital Cities, the co-chair of the entity, and mayor of Madrid, Ana Botella ended up making the decision of electing Bogotá as president of the sectorial committee of Information Technology and Communications and likewise proposed to replicate the “ITC Month” project on cities that are part of the entity.

Unfortunately, “ITC month”, and other culture related initiatives that have been implemented in the management of “Humane Bogotá”; just like the Bogota International Documentary, the International Festival of Storytellers or Film Festival: Childhood and Adolescence Bogotá City, are yet unknown by the city's society, unfamiliar activities and not for lack of information, but rather a lack of interest and liking towards these initiatives. Such scenario is distressing, due to the internationally well known cultural field Bogota has been leading, with several prizes won on culture, as the World Travel Awards (WTA), better known as the Oscar of tourism, showing Bogotá as a force in the field of culture.

So, Shouldn’t we stop criticizing and complaining about the management Gustavo Petro (Bogota’s Mayor) has been giving to the city and instead, show some interest in these cultural projects that manage to get us together as a society in a interactive and educational way.
